Cookies Make Homes…Families with children are among the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population. Sitting around the kitchen table, drinking milk and eating cookies is an image that means sweet home to most of us. For the roughly 1.6 million children likely to experience homelessness each year in the United States it is a memory they likely will not have.
The Sweet Home Project is our philanthropy to help end family homelessness in Massachusetts through a partnership with One Family Inc., a nonprofit initiative of the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation. The Sweet Home Project, started in 2001, helps homeless families move into stable lives and homes of their own by providing funding and support for low-income single parents to complete their college education and enter family sustaining careers. It helps parents break the cycle of poverty and thereby prevent homelessness for their families.
Dancing Deer donates a percent of the profits from Sweet Home goodies & gifts, year-round, directly to scholarships as a pathway out of poverty to economic self sufficiency. Each Sweet Home Gift includes one or more vanilla shortbread cookies with a house shape stamped on the top. The cookies are packaged in a book-like box which includes information about homelessness, the Sweet Home Project, and One Family. Sweet Home gift givers can help turn cookie houses into real houses!
